This course provides you with hands-on skills and knowledge that enables you to carry out a wide range of tasks in the bricklaying industry. This specific training and Assessment Strategy is targeted towards learners who are seeking to further their skills and knowledge practical and theoretical aspects of working in the bricklaying Industry. The target audience for this Training and Assessment Strategy are individuals who are working as apprentice bricklayer or have some relevant work experience within the industry either as a bricklayer or in the construction industry.

Course Brief

  • This qualification reflects the trade qualified role of a bricklayer, blocklayer or paver who may have responsibility for undertaking heritage bricklaying, refractory bricklaying, bricklaying, blocklaying and paving work in residential, industrial and commercial contexts, in both existing and new constructions.

    Occupational titles could include:

    Bricklayer
    Blocklayer
    Paver.
    The bricklaying, blocklaying and paving industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered and assessed in this context.

    Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements vary between states. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements.

    Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.

Program Content

  • The training program covers 20 units of competency taken from the qualification. It has total Core units of 8 Elective Units, participants are required to successfully complete all 28 core units.

Students are issued with learning materials and handouts relevant to each unit.

Reassessment

Students can have three reassessments of NYC (Not Yet Competent) free of charge provided that the submission of assessments has been done on time. Further, if a student fails more than three times in the unit, the student will have to repeat that unit and charges will be AUD$350.00 per unit (GST will not be charged).

Recognition

This course holds national accreditation under the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF).

Eligibility/ Entry requirements

The Training Package does not specify any entry requirements. However, Unity School of Education requires learners to be a minimum of 16 years of age and have at least a Certificate III level trade qualification, preferably from the CPC Training Package, or have at least 2 – 3 years of trade/industry experience. It also requires learners to demonstrate they have sound Language, Literacy, and Numeracy skills (LLN).

International Students will be required to demonstrate their English Language proficiency to a level of 5.5 overall score in IELTS or equivalent, with no less than 5.0 in each band. Successful completion of a Certificate III level qualification in Australia during the last 12 months will be considered equivalent to the IELTS requirements.

Further Education

Students who complete this qualification successfully can move on to further studies in the Certificate IV in Building and Construction (CPC40120) and Diploma of Building and Construction (CPC50220).
